Alexious Butler-Padron believes some of life's most transformative experiences begin when we become willing to cross a boundary—not simply between countries, but between people.

For more than two decades, Alexious has built partnerships across cultures, institutions, and communities through a career spanning international development, diplomacy, higher education, and global leadership. Her work has taken her around the world, where she has advised governments, led complex international initiatives, worked alongside local communities, and helped expand opportunities for Americans—particularly students historically underrepresented in global education—to engage with the world.

Those experiences taught her something that became the foundation of The Global Heart: exposure to difference does not automatically create understanding. Meaningful connection requires intention.

Alexious founded The Global Heart Foundation to help people develop the curiosity, confidence, and practical skills needed to build authentic relationships across cultures and differences. She is the creator of the Global HEART Journey, built around five lifelong practices: Honesty, Empathy, Adaptability, Respect, and Trust.

Today, Alexious brings these ideas to audiences through speaking, teaching, writing, and facilitated conversations. Combining compelling storytelling with lessons drawn from decades of global experience, she helps students, educators, leaders, organizations, and communities move beyond simply encountering difference to building trust, belonging, and meaningful human connection.

Our Story

We are more connected than at any other time in human history and yet meaningful human connection can sometimes feel harder to find.

People cross borders every day for education, work, migration, service, and travel. Our classrooms, workplaces, neighborhoods, and families increasingly bring together people with different cultures, identities, experiences, and ways of seeing the world. But simply encountering difference does not automatically lead to understanding.

The Global Heart Foundation was created to help bridge that gap.

We believe some of life's most transformative experiences happen when people move beyond simply encountering one another and begin building authentic relationships across cultures and differences.

Through education, storytelling, leadership development, global experiences, and community engagement, The Global Heart helps people develop the mindset and practices needed to approach the world with greater curiosity, build trust across differences, and create communities where people feel they belong.

Our work begins with students and educational institutions, particularly by expanding access to meaningful global learning and helping students prepare for international experiences. But our vision extends much further.

We envision a world in which people of every age and background have the confidence, curiosity, and capacity to engage across cultures—not simply as travelers or observers, but as neighbors, colleagues, friends, partners, and leaders.
